A Realistic Workflow With These Tools
Most people who get good results don't lock themselves into a single tool. A common pattern: sketch the idea and get a visual first draft in an app-builder like v0 or Lovable, since seeing something concrete quickly makes the next decisions easier than describing an app in the abstract. Once the shape is right, move the project into an IDE-integrated tool like Cursor or a chat-based agent like Claude Code to add real logic, connect a database, and handle the parts that need actual engineering judgment rather than visual polish.
This switch matters because the tools genuinely specialize. An app-builder optimized for "look finished fast" isn't optimized for "handle edge cases correctly," and vice versa. Expecting one tool to be great at both is where a lot of frustration with these products comes from. Treating them as stages of the same project, rather than competing options, usually gets a better result than picking one and forcing every task through it.
How to Choose
Start with three questions. First, do you already know how to code? If not, an app-builder tool gets you further with less friction than a chat agent that expects you to review its own output. Second, how much control do you need over the result? Chat-based and IDE tools give you the actual source code to inspect, change, and move elsewhere; some app-builders keep more of that under the hood. Third, what happens after the first version works? If the answer is "nothing, this was just a test," any of these tools is enough. If the answer is "real users, real data, ongoing maintenance," that's a different project with different requirements.

Untangling a project from a tool that never intended for anyone else to read its output is a much harder problem to solve later than picking a slightly less flashy tool now.
